A New Era for Life Sciences in Northern Israel
The University of Haifa is taking a bold step forward with the creation of a new, state-of-the-art Laboratory Complex at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. This transformative facility will meet the growing need for advanced research spaces that foster innovation and interdisciplinary discovery. With a focus on three areas where we lead globally, the complex will drive progress in:
- Evolutionary and Environmental Biology: advancing knowledge of ecosystems, biodiversity, and their delicate interconnections
- Biology and Medical Sciences: translating discoveries into innovative approaches for health, disease prevention, and treatment
- Neuroscience: uncovering the mechanisms of brain function and its influence on human behavior and mental health
Designed for Discovery
The five-story complex will feature over 20 high-tech labs supporting cutting-edge research in fields such as genetics, neurobiology, synthetic biology, and aging. Designed for collaboration, each lab will host 8–10 students, faculty, and technical staff, creating a vibrant environment for hands-on learning and innovation. As we grow from 830 to 1,250 students, this facility will be critical to advancing our research agenda and meeting future demands.

At the heart of the new complex is the Shared Research Center, offering high-precision equipment and expert support across multiple scientific disciplines. This centralized hub will enable interdisciplinary research at a scale and depth not previously possible. Key units will include:
- Bioimaging – High-resolution microscopy and imaging analysis
- Flow Cytometry – Cellular analysis and sorting
- Bioinformatics – Data modeling and computational analysis
- Histology – Tissue preparation and microscopic study
- Genomics – Advanced gene sequencing and molecular tools
