ABOUT THE EVENT

In recent weeks, Israeli fighter jets conducted multiple precision airstrikes deep inside Iranian territory—targeting nuclear sites (Natanz, Isfahan), missile production facilities, air defenses, and military command centers. These strikes, part of what has been referred to as Operation Rising Lion, reflected Israel’s ability to project military power deep into enemy territory with precision and control. Around the same time, a U.S. operation near Iran’s Fordow nuclear site highlighted the coordinated efforts between Israel and the United States to deter Iranian aggression.

American Friends of University of Haifa invites you to a rare and timely webinar featuring former Deputy Chief of the Israeli Air Force Brig. Gen Nimrod Sheffer, one of Israel’s most respected military strategists.

A veteran Israeli Air Force pilot, Gen. Sheffer was also Chief of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Planning Branch of the General HQ and following his distinguished military career, went on to become CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) —Israel’s leading defense company and the manufacturer of systems such as the Arrow missile defense system. More recently, he announced his entry into political life by joining Israel’s Democratic Party.

The conversation will be moderated by Dubi Weissglas, Chair of the Executive Committee of University of Haifa and former Director-General of the Prime Minister’s Office under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Together, he and Gen. Sheffer will explore:

    • How Israel planned and executed its recent air campaign in Iran

    • What lessons were learned from the operation

    • What these developments mean for future conflict scenarios involving Iran and its proxies

    • The broader strategic implications of the U.S. strike near Fordow
